Fly control … how do you handle it? ?
I’ve got three ideas for you
Fly Predators
That’s what this bag is, it’s from Spalding Labs, it’s their Fly Predators
You see that little black thing?
That is a little cocoon that the fly predator lives in
They almost look like little ants only they’ve got little wings ?
What they do is eat the fly larvae
You want to put it up near wherever your flies are breeding
When I open one of these bags…
I dump part of it out where we dump the dog poop ?
Or you where you dump your manure
Wherever you see the flies gathering
I leave a little bit in the bag
I strung it on the fence on the side of the yard where the poop is
They can fly pretty far but they will go after the fly larvae
That’ll prevent the flies from being able to breed
Water Bags
It’s a bag that has a yellow or an orange pop top on it
It’s got a brick of chemicals in it
When you fill it up with water to the waterline, the chemicals dissolve
It stinks like ‘all get out’ but it does attract the flies into the bag
They can fly in, but they can’t fly out
Essential herbs
You can make a spray ?
It is typically a one to one ratio of water to alcohol (drinking alcohol like vodka*)
Some scents that flies don’t like are rosemary, mint, lavender, and thyme.
So you could get any of those essential oils and make up a spray yourself
Spray down areas where you want to repel the flies so that they don’t gather
*The vodka actually helps the water and the essential oils stay blended together and not keep separating so you don’t have to keep taking your jar over and over again in your spray bottle.
These are the three ideas I personally use for fly control. So check them out, give them a try and comment if you’ve got other methods that work.
