How do you handle ants around the hen house? ?
You can’t put down chemicals
You don’t want to harm the chickens
There are some options for natural ant spray ?
One of the options is a citrus spray ?
Ants don’t like citrus.
Similar to the way dogs don’t, it makes them wince
You can make a citrus spray and use that
A second option is diatomaceous earth ?
What is diatomaceous earth?
It is fossilized phytoplankton from the ocean
The phytoplankton is sharp and it cuts the insects
A third option is lemon juice ?
Again for the citrus reason
Ants don’t like something in the citrus oils
You could also make a vinegar solution
They don’t like vinegar for the same reason
It’s got fumes to it that bother them
Then there’s essential oils ?
You can make an essential oil spray
That is essential oils mixed in water
It tends to be citrus oils like lemon, grapefruit or orange, maybe some tea tree oil
Because they’re oils, they’re not going to stay mixed with water very well
You have to keep shaking the spray bottle
To help them stay mixed in the water better, put a little bit of cheap vodka in there
The alcohol will help the water and oil mix together better
I use the essential oil spray
That works best for me
There are different kinds of ants and some of the other solutions might work better depending on what kind of ants you have
If you’re into natural solutions, give these a try to see if you can naturally get your ants to stay away from the hen
